no news, bad news

In Uncategorized on March 27, 2009 at 9:49 am

turkish democracy

In ciudades, españa, europe, políticos, politics, tv, Uncategorized, world, [a] news on March 16, 2009 at 6:18 pm

galata1The Turkish democracy is more Turkish than what it is democratic. Right between the East and the West, with the splendid Galata bridge stating the way to a modernity that never really comes, Istanbul is a real paradox of which its best part is their people: their joy, their intelligence, their living strength. We want Turkey in the EU, but the ruling class is not working too hard on that. Making a search in Internet is more than enough to understand what we are talking about. Today, in the Water Forum, I have had to tell something not nice to Turkish president’s personal assistant, Abdullah Gül, who was making our informative job difficult.

Madam, it is clear that you would not like Turkey to be part of the EU, as you would not feel confortable in a free society.

In the V World Water Forum, thousands of policemen keep watching participants and journalists movements. In the press room, I could not even check my mail, internet was more filtrated than in the Beijing Olympics. But I am still at the side of Turkish, distinguishing is fundamental.

love’s a contradiction

In Uncategorized on March 6, 2009 at 5:27 pm

‘The Reader’ got four nominations to Golden Globes as the best film of the year. It is based on author Bernhard Schlink’s best-selling novel of the same name. The main character, a German law student teen called Michel Berg, first met Hanna Smith, who works at the tramway company in Germany, when he was fifteen and she thirty six (twice his age).

They both had a love long summer together in post-World War II Germany and she loved when Michael read books for her. He knew she was illiterate a few years later, once Hanna had suddenly vanished. He was brokendown because he didn’t understand how mysteriously she had disappeared and he tried to look for her for a long time. Eight years later, Michel was already attending as a defendant in the courtroom the Nazi war crimes trial of five female former S.S. concentration camp guards, one of whom was Hanna. But Michel is in possession of information which could save Hanna from a life in prison.

“It’s doesn’t matter what I think, it doesn’t matter what I feel… the dead will still dead”.

Behind the mystery lies a truth that will make you question everything you believe. ‘The Reader’ shows the most human side in one of the bests Kate Winslet’s roles based in the difficult post-World War II Germany. The story is about truth and reconciliation, about how a generation comes to terms with the crimes of another. The whole plot in this film is a contradiction to the main character, Michael, who tries to understand instead of thinking as a lawyer.

‘The Reader’ is suggestive a drama which will make you think. For sure.

alright, mr. president

ZP was optimistic in Brussels. He explained why:

jmszp1

It is true, José-María, that the markets are going wrong, but my advice is to have a look at the Euribor: then you will see that the financial system is starting to get better.

I would like to believe in what my President says, but I am not so sure if he is right. We will see. Zapatero’s assistants suggest him to better focus on the public expense, just the way Roosevelt did when the Great Depression: spending money is what we need, and Spain is a good example:

These are not days for reducing expenses, frankly: we have to push just until the economy of innovation arrives.

For this reason, Rodríguez Zapatero’s government has already informed that no one should expect such reduction. ZP has even promised that there will be more money for R+D+I, infraestructures and education. A really dary program of the socialist government to put into practice. Anyhow, we still do not know if Spain will be accepted in the new international financial system. Seen how president Bush has ignored Spain as a potential guest for the financial summit that will take place next 15th November, everybody’s mood is just as the Stock Exchange’s: lower impossible. Unless president Sarkozy comes to let us France’s place, as he has already declared. This gesture would be historic, I can even picture it: Spain representing France in Washington, while France represents the European Union. Nothing better than approaching problems with a bit of imagination.

cool woody

I have just seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona and I really made it up with Woody Allen. It was easy, though, as I am the kind of fan that has seen almost all his movies. It was the time when we pretended to be cool, so watching the last production by Woody Allen was almost a need.

Later all that stuff started to tire me. It was exhausting: he could not stop talking!!! After that, as time went by and we already had forgotten his movies due to his familiar scandals, Match Point pop up. And so arrived Scarlett Johansson… how could I explain: I feel like if I was young (and cool) again.

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

If it was for me, I would take the first flight to Barcelona. To meet the Mediterranean once again, its light, its joy, the great hustle and bustle of Barcelona.

I was a stranger when I got there for the first time, today I feel like a stateless European, or maybe like a citizen of the world from 27 countries at the same time. Here you have some music by Giulia and the Tellarinis… and a picture of Scarlett and Javier Bardem. Let’s dream for a while!

I interviewed Woody in one of those luxury hotels in Manhattan, where journalists stand on a line, waiting the star to answer their questions. It was difficult to get from him more than little short answers. So cute, Woody.

Later on I saw him again in his jazz club, playing saxo: “pas mal”, but as boring and charmless as before. And yet, this man is magic and he knows how to transmit it. It is hard to find master pieces in Woody Allen’s career (even if there are some). What is undeniable is that Woody has gain much along the years and that his last movies will be tenderly remembered.

José-María defies common stereotypes. Although he was born in Almería, in the heart of Andalusia, those who know him are quick to point out that his excessive perfectionism in work seems “more Swiss than Spanish”. Some would argue that José-María’s “Teutonic” work ethic has something to do with the fact that he has not only married a German, but has also spent long periods of time in that country as a foreign correspondent for the Spanish National Television (TVE). He not only covered the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, but became Bureau Chief in Berlin towards the end of the 1990s, covering the ups and downs of the reunification. However, the fact that José-María has spent most of his life darting across the globe as a journalist for TVE suggests that being a workaholic may be innate. Spending time as a foreign correspondent in Rabat, Sarajevo (during the siege), Madrid, Port-Au-Prince, Kinshasa, New York, Washington and finally Brussels, José María may have had to acclimatize to local cultures. But that has never meant adapting to local working hours, much to the annoyance of his family and friends.

zp defines the european common governement

The heads of state of the EU have started taking the crisis seriously and they took the compromise of acting coordinated. Even if they will act by their own, they will take into account the others interests. It is our only alternative‘.

We will see. The music we listen to everyday is quite different: Sarkozy and Merkel have no problems in showing they mind their own business, although they assume, now, that protectionism is not a solution in a long term.

But the title (the anecdote) was accidentaly (or not) given by the president of Spain. Grabado con la mini-cámara Flip: clic, vídeo; clic, internet.
